Celebrate National Card Playing Day
Did you know that December 28th is National Card Playing Day? In today’s Westminster Towers Blog we have some card games to share with you. Play with family and friends at your apartment and enjoy your holiday season in Tacoma, WA!
Spoons is an interactive, quick, and competitive game. The goal of the game is to get four cards of a kind using face cards. Each player holds four cards in their hand and they then pass one card they want to discard to the player on their left. When one player gets four of a kind, they grab one spoon that is laid out in the center of the table. Everyone can then grab a spoon regardless of their hand. There will be one less spoon than there are people playing. If you’re too slow and don’t get a spoon, you’re out. The game continues until there’s one winner. Golf is another game using face cards. The goal of the game is to get the most points. To set this game up, each player is given 9 cards. Without looking at their cards, each player places them in a grid face-down. They can then flip over 2-3 of their cards of their choice. They then take turns choosing a card from the deck in the center of the table and making their move. On each player's turn they can replace the card they picked up, with a card in their grid. Scum is a game that can be played indefinitely depending on how long you want it to go. It’s played with face cards and to set up this game, the dealer deals out the whole deck to the players, making sure each player has the same amount of cards. The goal of this game is to discard cards that are higher than the player before you. It’s a fun game that your family and friends will love to play!
Phase 10 is a game based on phases with specific goals for that phase. Each player takes turns drawing a card and discarding a card on their turn. They try to achieve the goal for that round and if they do so, they lay down their cards. Once they’ve laid down for that phase, they can play their remaining cards on the phases of others. Find this game online or at a local store!
