Are you ready to watch the Oscars on February 24th, 2019? Instead of merely sitting down the evening of to view this annual event, Westminster Towers Blog encourages you to spend a few nights preparing during the weeks leading up to the awards ceremony; it will make the anticipation of the awards announced more fun, and it will help you to be a more educated viewer. Try following a few of these simple suggestions to help you prepare for the year’s most prestigious film awards ceremony!

If you haven’t yet familiarized yourself with the films up for nomination, it’s a great idea to spend as much time as you can before the Academy Awards watching them! It’s true that there are lots of different categories, and so it will probably seem a bit stressful to know where you should start. Instead of trying to watch it all, we’d recommend that you pick two or three major categories and watch all of the films being nominated within them. Start with the most prestigious ones like Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Actor.

More than just watching these films, do a little bit of background research on them. Who is the director of this specific film? How about the actors? What are their stories? Do they belong to any minority groups? Why is it significant that these specific people are up for an Academy Award? It’s natural for some movies to initially stand out more than others, but with some context, films that seemed strange or boring at first will likely become more meaningful and interesting. Favorites will always stay favorites, but it’s important to realize that there is more to the art of film and to the Oscars than enjoyability or popularity alone.

After you’ve done your homework, sit back and enjoy the Academy Awards! When you don’t know half of the films up for nomination, the awards ceremony isn’t half as exciting; when you have spent time preparing, you will most likely have specific films and actors you’re rooting for, making the whole evening far more fun. It’s perfectly normal to be bummed out when one of your favorites doesn’t win, but make sure to celebrate the success of the winners, as well. It took a lot for these people to get where they are, and winning is no small feat!

We hope this helped you get ready for your Oscars viewing experience this year in your Tacoma, WA apartment. Thanks for reading our post!
